Jean Paul Rena
Jean Paul Rena: zaterdag 11 januari
Jean Paul Rena hails from the Netherlands. Born in an artist family he is a blues and guitar
addict from the first day he remembers. Growing up in an atmosphere of black African and
American roots music he found blues as the most natural way to follow this path in his
musical career.
….also all his heroes were fine guitar players, Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Albert King,
B.B. King, Clapton & Stevie Ray Vaughan and guitar became his thing.
After meeting and talking about music, blues and bands with Stevie Ray Vaughan a long
time ago, he eventually started writing his own material and fronting his own three piece
band, “Jean Paul Rena” and released five albums so far.
Jean Paul Rena´s music is recognizable as an emotional mix of Blues, American Roots
Rock and Rock & Roll.
Rena states ´the albums reflect a sort of documenting my life, my blood, my heroes and
my musical journey over the years´. I also allowed myself to be completely genuine as an
artist — singer, guitar player, songwriter and producer – and I take things happening in my
life and put them into music´.
Not following the path of styles, expectations and marketing made it all really personal and
……free from outside powers. As he says “Unpredictable maybe but hey, nobody buys an
album he or she already knows".
He is as always, …unpredictable, emotinally loaded and with crash and burn guitar.
In 2018 he released his last album, "A thief known for stealing hearts”. Jean Paul Rena is
live performing in the Netherlands and abroad, ranging from juke joints to festivals. In 2019
he is bringing his Big City Blues besides The Netherlands also to Portugal and ….
Like always he finds him self backed and supported by an excellent rhythm section.
For winter 2019-2020 blues could not be rocking better !
